Safety
Live video with strangers carries real risk. These are the things we do about it, and the things we can't.
Before a call
- Linger is for adults. You confirm your age with a selfie estimate, or an ID scan if the selfie isn't enough, before your first call.
- If someone is banned and verifies again with the same identity, we block them at verification.
- You see your own camera and press I'm ready first. Nobody is dropped in front of a stranger.
- Pressing Next over and over triggers a short pause. Blocks are permanent, work both ways in matching, and the other person isn't told.
- Calls run through a media server, so the other person never sees your IP address.
During a call
- Leave, Next, Mute and Report are always on screen. Leave stays visible even when the other controls fade.
- An automated check samples one frame of each person's video every 10 seconds, looking for nudity and signs that someone is under 18. Frames are deleted within seconds unless one is flagged.
- That is the only automated look at your video. We don't analyze emotions, rank looks or score behavior, and we don't record calls or make transcripts.
- In chat, links and requests for money get flagged. If someone pushes you to move to another app quickly, we'll warn you, because that's a common scam sign.
After a call
- A report ends the call for both of you and the two of you never match again. A person reads it, usually within 24 hours and within 2 hours for nudity or someone who looks under 18.
- We can warn, suspend for 24 hours or 7 days, or ban for good. Every appeal is answered within 7 days by someone other than the person who made the first call.
- We publish a safety note each quarter with report counts per 1,000 calls.
What we do with video and location
If you report someone, you can choose to include the last 30 seconds of their video from that call. Your device keeps those 30 seconds in memory and sends them only if you tick the box. We keep them for 30 days and then delete them, unless the law requires us to keep them longer. Everyone is told at sign-up that if they are reported, the last 30 seconds of their video from that call may be sent to our safety team.
Your location is rounded to about 1 kilometer before we store it, and other people see an approximate distance or your city. The selfie or ID you use for the age check stays with our verification vendor under their retention rules. We keep the result and your age band.
What we can't promise
- Someone on a call can take a screenshot or record their screen, and we can't stop it.
- Age checks catch most underage users and not all. Estimates have an error band, and a borrowed ID can fool a scan.
- Moderation reduces risk and doesn't remove it. We say we check, never that we guarantee.
Report a problem or appeal
Use Report during or after any call. If we acted on your account and you think we got it wrong, you can appeal here.
